The paper discussed the role of extensive reading in teaching ESP to students of languages and literature. The course comprising extensive reading has been taught for several years, eliciting certain benefits and drawbacks for both students and instructors. 

Firstly, the paper highlights classroom activities and homework tasks that are often included in the syllabus and go beyond the definition of extensive reading per se. 

Next, it dwells on the most essential course prerequisites such as students' level of foreign language proficiency and cultural background which have proved to be rather troublesome areas of course implementation. The authors discuss a series of both positive and negative outcomes that may follow given factors.

Finally, there seems to be a strong correlation between students' involvement and teacher being their so-called role model, a term comprising both knowledge and passion for reading. However, even the most enthusiastic of teachers find themselves in a very disadvantageous position when it comes to poor attendance and preparation.
