My presentation is based on the thematic group «Time. Patience» of the Russian
Paremiological minimum, highlighted by M. Yu. Kotova. This group contains 29 Russian proverbs
divided into 6 sub-groups. As a result of my research in the big dictionary of
the Hungarian proverbs (T. Litovkina, 2010) 55 items were identified as
belonging to this thematic group. Following a thorough semantic examination
of the selected proverbs, the original table of systematization was extended by
a seventh sub-group «Timeliness». Further 11
well-known Russian proverbs were added to the initial compilation and placed in
the corresponding sub-group.
A special part of this presentation is
dedicated to the paremiological aspect of the theory of
the common Central-European linguistic area. This theory is supported by
significant number of the Hungarian proverbs in the above thematic group having
their parallels in German, Czech, Slovak and Slovenian proverbial lore.
