I work as a teacher of Japanese at Saint Petersburg State University (SPbGU). At the same time, I work as a course-coordinating teacher for intensive courses at a university in Japan (at International Christian University, so-called ICU) every summer. Thus, I often think of combining good parts of Japanese grading policy with my courses in Russia. In this presentation, I would like to introduce the grading policy and actual testing methods of my courses at ICU in order to show the difference from my courses at SPbGU. Moreover, I would like to present what students think of different grading policies in Russia and Japan: I will carry out the interviews with two students, who are a Russian student at SPbGU who has studied at ICU and a Japanese postgraduate student at SPbGU who has graduated from a Japanese university. I hope that it would give teachers not only some tips and hints to make the current policy better, but also ideas regarding practical activities and testing in the classroom.
