Yuri Sergeevich Maslov (May 5, 1914 – August 31, 1990) is one of the most outstanding Russian linguists of the 20th century, renowned for his expertise in a number of areas of general linguistics, including theoretical linguistics, the history of linguistics, Slavonic (in particular, Bulgarian) studies, Germanic studies, and for his classic textbook Introduction to General Linguistics. Yet Yu. S. Maslov is probably best known as a grammarian and the founding father of the Russian school of general and contrastive aspectology. He developed a comprehensive system of fundamental aspectual concepts, anticipating major trends in aspectology that would be elaborated by researchers from different countries and linguistic traditions in late 20th - early 21st century. The international conference The Linguistic Heritage and Development of Yu. S. Maslov’s Ideas is dedicated to the birthday centenary of their dear colleague and the Chair of the Department of General Linguistics at St. Petersburg State University from 1961 to 1985.
