The aim of this paper is to shed light on one of the most important literary-historical processes in Serbian literature conceived at the time of the avant-garde.This historical process was reflected in the establishment of the very specific poetics of infantilism, recognized in most of our poets of avant-garde literature, such as Rastko Petrović, Milan Dedinac and Stanislav Vinaver, and restored after the Second World War by poets Vasko Popa, Dušan Radović and many others.

The aim of this paper is to shed light on one of the most important literary-historical processes in Serbian literature, conceived at the time of the avant-garde, and resulting from a widespread need for the «rebirth of and searching for the primal simplicity , the primal truth, and the primal innocence that culture and poetic codes destroyed» (Adrian Marino, The Poetics of Avant-garde). Among other aspects of the return to the innocent and the naive, this historical process was reflected in the establishment of the very specific poetics of infantilism, recognized in most of our poets of avant-garde literature, such as Rastko Petrović, Milan Dedinac and Stanislav Vinaver, and restored after the Second World War by poets Vasko Popa, Dušan Radović and many others. The above-mentioned poets strived systematically towards activating poetic procedures starting from the infantile consciousness (language simplification, children's vocabulary, naive expression), aiming to get closer to some sort of primal form, the germ, or a specific children's substance in poetry, thus itself incorporating  in the mainstream of European 20th century literature. Special attention in the paper is paid to the connections between Serbian and Russian avant-garde, bearing in mind that some of the main impulses for illuminating the poetics of infantilism in the Serbian literature were found in the essay «Where are the poems» by Russian linguist LP Iakubinski.
